Jonas Wood: the court as a frame.
A playing surface becomes a structure for painting. Looking at the tennis courts of Jonas Wood.

A tennis court arrives with its own composition: a rectangle, a net, repeated lines, a boundary between in and out. For Jonas Wood, that recognisable structure becomes a way to explore painting.
Gagosian’s account of his March–April 2026 Beverly Hills exhibition describes courts viewed from behind the baseline, without players or officials. The gallery dates the start of his tennis-court series to 2011. It presents the standard dimensions and changing colour schemes as a framework for serial abstraction.
A field of constraints
Our interest is in that exchange. The rules that make a place playable also make it legible as an image. Repetition offers an artist a structure; colour and perspective create room for difference.
